The Mac uses several different dialers to connect to the Internet. Find which one you are using - check whether you are using PPP (or Remote Access) or Free PPP dialer to connect to the Internet:
    a. Click the Apple Menu on the top left corner of your screen.
    b. Click on TCP/IP and look under the field box Connect Via to see whether you have the PPP or Free PPP dialup. Close window and go to the appropriate dialup below.
PPP and Remote Access:
1. Click the Apple Menu on the top left of your screen.

2. Click Control Panel, then select your PPP program (it will be called PPP or Remote Access).

3. Delete the existing phone number and type in the new Internet access number (if your access number is in another area code, you will need to type in a 1 before the area code, just like you do with a phone number ). Close the window, saving your changes.

4. Connect to GloryWorks just as you always have. If it works, congratulations! You're done. If you have problems, try one or more of the following:

5. Connect to GloryWorks just as you always have. If it works, congratulations! You're done. If you have problems, try one or more of the following:

Detailed Instructions on How to Change the Dial-Up Phone Number for Macintosh

Which PPP (dialing) software are you using?
On the Macintosh, several different dialers are used to connect you to the Internet, and they vary depending on the model of Mac you are using. You first need to select which one you are using. You may have to use the search and find tool to find the type of dialer you are using.

MacOS 8.5 and iMac with the included Internet Software
You are using this software if your machine is an iMac or you have MacOS 8.5 installed, and you set up your Internet connection using the Internet Setup Assistant and make your connections--when you do so manually--using the Remote Access Status application or the Remote Access control panel. You are also using this combination if you set up the Remote Access, TCP/IP, Modem, and Internet control panels manually, or if MacOS 8.5 "took over" your old Apple Internet Connection Kit settings when you updated from an earlier version of the Macintosh software.

  1. Go to Apple Key
  2. Go to control pannel
  3. Select Remote Access
  4. Change the phone number
If you cannot edit the phone number and there are no boxes around the Number, Name, and Password fields, then the fields are "locked".

If the fields in the Remote Access control panel are locked, see the instructions for locking and unlocking these fields using "help." Unlock the Number, change it, and relock it. Close the Remote Access control panel...you will be asked whether you wish to save the changes you have made: click "Save."

MacOS 8.0 or 8.1 (except iMac) with the included Internet Software
You are using this software if you set up your Internet connection using the Internet Setup Assistant and make your connections--when you do so manually--using the Internet Dialer application or the PPP control panel. You are also using this software if you set up the PPP, TCP/IP, and Modem control panels (and probably Internet Config) manually, or if MacOS

8.0 or 8.1 "took over" your old Apple Internet Connection Kit settings when you updated from an earlier version of the Macintosh software.

Run the Internet Setup Assistant. In the first window, select Update. In the third window, select Modify. In the fourth window, the configuration you are using should be selected in the list...it is probably named GloryWorks or something similar.

Continue through the windows until you reach the one containing the phone number. Change the phone number, and continue to the last window, where you tell the Assistant to "Go Ahead." (As an alternative, you can open the PPP control panel, and change the number as described for MacOS 8.5 (and iMac) above.

The PPP control panel is the same for this purpose as the newer Remote Access control panel.)

The OpenTransport/PPP control panel
You are using this dialer if you have a TCP/IP control panel, a PPP control panel, and if - when you open the TCP/IP control panel, the "Connect via" popup menu at the top of the window reads PPP.

Open the PPP control panel.

Change the phone number.

When you next quit the PPP control panel, you will be asked whether you wish to save changes. Click "Save". If you are unable to change the phone number, see the instructions for locking and unlocking these fields. Unlock the Number field, change it, and relock it. Close the PPP control panel. When asked whether you wish to save your changes, click "Save".

FreePPP version 2.5.anything or version 2.6.2
You are using this dialer (or version 2.6, which I haven't seen) if you have an application named Free PPP Setup on your hard disk, and either FreePPP is selected in the "Connect via" popup menu at the top of the TCP/IP control panel window, or the FreePPP icon is selected (dark) in the collection of icons at the top of the MacTCP control panel. [You do not have both TCP/IP and MacTCP control panels...they do not work together.]

Open the FreePPP Setup application. [There is a command to do this in the menu with the telephone icon near the right of the menu bar, if you have that menu installed.] Make sure the more detailed form of the FreePPP Setup window is shown (the window is roughly square, and has folder tabs across the middle. If the window is much wider than it is high, click on the right-pointing triangle near the bottom left corner to show the details. Click the Accounts tab. In the list (which probably has only one entry), double click the name of the setup you are using. Change the phone number, and click the OK button. [If the phone number is not part of the window, click the Account tab...this should not be necessary.]

FreePPP version 2.5.anything or version 2.6.2
Apple Internet Dialer from the Apple Internet Connection Kit
You are using this dialer if you installed your software using the Apple Internet Connection Kit or bought a Macintosh which had it pre-installed, and you haven't installed some other dialing software. In the TCP/IP control panel, the "Connect via" popup menu is set to MacPPP; or in the MacTCP control panel, the MacPPP control panel is selected among the icons at the top of the window.

Open the Apple Internet Dialer application. The phone number is shown temptingly in the window: ignore it. In the Provider menu, choose the Modify Current Provider or Modify Current Connection or Modify Connection command (depending upon the program's version). A page of text appears, suggesting you contact us. Click the Next button. Change the phone number on this page, and click the next button. Click Next again, then click OK.

Older versions of MacPPP (and the earliest version of FreePPP)
You are using this dialing software if you have a MacTCP control panel and a Config PPP control panel.

Open the Config PPP control panel. Click the Config... button at the lower left. Change the "Phone Num" (the phone number). Click the Done button.

Older versions of Mac (7.6 and earlier) who have ConfigPPP:
You may have to search to find the ConfigPPP
instructions.
